Tentacle Gun by Nosslak Tentacle Gun by Nosslak
A fantasy pirate pistol I made a while ago.  It's using about 13.000 triangles and a set of 2048^2 PBR textures (that is albedo, normal, gloss, metallic, occlusion, cavity maps and an SSS-mask).

The concept art is created by Darren Bartley and can be found here.

Software used: Blender, ZBrush, xNormal, Photoshop and Marmoset Toolbag 2.

See more of this on my portfolio.

Squee BounceAMAZING!! Did you create all that texture (with idk maybe photoshop or gimp) then uv unwrapped it onto the model? I'm a newbie at the moment so I'm just curious of how everyone makes such amazing models Excited Blush Excited Blush Excited Blush

Thanks! The textures are baked from a highpoly model from ZBrush where I sculpted all the details and did some simple painting based on the geometry (cavity and such) and baked that down to a lowpoly model. Most of the detail were however painted in Photoshop with a few photosourced textures. You can see some of the textures here.

Yeah, not problem! Keep on working hard and pushing your boundaries and sooner or later you'll get as good or better than me.

Also I accidentally posted the wrong link though. This is the link I meant to post.

The models in your portfolio o.O how long did those take you - I mean, OMG I want to do something like that Yugi Like It Plz I'm only modeling a simple Glock 17 pistol at the moment and it's taking me AGES Panda Emoji-24 (Oh...) [V2] have you come across problems with the sub surf modifier when you just seem to get unnecessary folds and creases? Coz I've been spending 3 hours last night just trying to sort it out Fail

Most of those models have taken about 2 or 3 weeks to create. For a portfolio only the very best is good enough so they might take a bit longer than the typical production model.

It's hard to give any specific pointers without seeing any examples, but in general try to use as little geometry as necessary (but no less than that) and in some cases use floating geometry. It also helps to use matcaps and/or very shiny materials when doing hard surface work to check the shading. Have a read through this thread if you're struggling with sub-d modelling.

Thanks for the advice- thats very helpful :la: id look into that in more detail later on, especially when I'm not quite familiar with the normal maps and such Lovely Shoujo (Err Drawing Blank) [V3]

Not a problem, man! You can learn pretty much all you need to know about normalmaps from the wiki over on Polycounts. If you're serious about 3d art you post your stuff over there for some serious critique.
